Assam: Centre set to sign MoS with Karbi militants today

The Centre is set to sign a tripartite “Karbi Peace Accord” on Saturday and the agreement is expected to be signed in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the representatives of Karbi outfits in New Delhi.

The accord is expected to be inked at the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA)’s office in the North Block office at 4 pm.

Around 200 Karbi militants, who were part of the 1,040 surrendered Karbi rebels, will be present during the signing of the agreement.

The militants surrendered before the Assam government on February 25 this year.

As many as 1,040 militants belonging to five outfits including the People’s Democratic Council of Karbi Longri (PDCK) of Karbi Anglong district aid down arms at an event in Guwahati on February 25 in the presence of then Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
