Guwahati: The central bureau of investigation (CBI), on Monday (July 01), said that it has arrested an assistant commissioner of Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST), GST Commissionerate Guwahati, Assam for demanding and accepting undue advantage of Rs 50,000 from a complainant.
The central investigating agency in a press statement said that it had registered a case against the accused, M Srinivasa Rao, on the basis of the complaint.

The complainant alleged that he was served demand and show-cause notices, and was called to the CGST office by the accused a number of times.
The complainant said that he had carried out civil works against which he paid all the due taxes.

The complainant also alleged that on his visit to the CGST office to enquire about the matter, the accused demanded a sum of Rs two lakh from him as undue advantage for passing favourable orders.
However, after negotiations, the accused allegedly agreed to accept Rs 50,000 as bribe.
The premier investigating agency then laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting undue advantage of Rs 50,000 from the complainant.
Subsequently, the accused was arrested.
Searches were conducted at the office and residential premises of the accused at Guwahati in Assam and Hyderabad.
Further investigation in the case is underway.
