“Man-elephant conflict has been rising due to the shrinking of forest cover as the result the elephant comes to human habitation in search of food and as a result conflict took place,” the official added.

Devajit Moran, secretary of Green Bud society, an environmental NGO said, “A few days ago a man was killed by a wild elephant at Digboi Oil field area while he was returning after his work.”

“Cases of man-elephant conflict have been rising in the upper Assam area,” he added.
