Guwahati: A night bus allegedly hit a police constable in Sivasagar, Assam and fled the scene, leaving at least 37 passengers stranded for hours.

The incident occurred on National Highway 37 near Khowang Chariali. Traffic police constable Chandra Kamal Ahom of Moranhat police station, travelling home on his motorcycle, was hit by the night bus (registration AS01MC0907).

However, he sustained injuries but is receiving treatment at Moran Medical Centre.

While the bus driver fled, Moran police swiftly seized the vehicle.

However, this created a new problem – the passengers were left stranded at the police station from 10 pm to 2 am.

The police later arranged an alternative Ultra bus to safely transport them to Guwahati.

Passengers suspected the driver of being under the influence of alcohol. Eyewitnesses further alleged the accident occurred during a reckless overtaking manoeuvre.
