Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma presented the vote on account Budget on Friday, on the second day of the three-day State Assembly session.

The vote on account from April-July 2021 comes ahead of the State Assembly polls in the state.

This is the last Budget of the BJP-led government in Assam, which gears up for the ensuing State Assembly polls 2021.

Presenting the interim Budget on the floor of the State Legislative Assembly, finance minister Sarma said: “I am happy to present the fifth Budget.”

The finance minister said in the financial year 2019-20, the total expenditure in the state was Rs 81,088 thousand crore.

He said the state government has been able to implement 68% of the proposals in the 2019-20 Assam Budget.

Sarma said in the financial year 2019-20, the capital expenditure in the state increased to Rs 13,501 crore.

Under the Asom Darshan scheme, the Assam government provided Rs 10 lakh each for the development of 915 religious institutions in the state.

Besides, a total of 8,756 Namghars have been given financial aid of Rs 2.5 lakh, he said.

The state government spent a total of Rs 13,501 crore for infrastructure development.

Construction of a total of 870 bridges has been completed while 1,000 wooden bridges have been turned into concrete bridges, he said.

The state government has provided free rice to 59 lakh poor families for which the government has spent Rs 667 crore.

The finance minister said the state government will issue an ordinance on the daily wages of the tea garden workers of Assam by February 20 after consulting with the stakeholders.

The announcement by the finance minister bears significance

He said the Assam government has been providing Rs 1,000 per month to a total of 1,60,612 disabled people of the state.

He said a total of 12,56,698 people in the state have been benefitted from the pension scheme.

Regarding the Asom Mala project, which was launched recently, 890 km road will be constructed in the state, Sarma said.

He said under the Arunodoi Scheme, an ambitious scheme of the Assam government, will be increased to Rs 3,000 per month in the future.

The Assam government was able to receive Rs 7,756 crore as royalty from the oil companies during the period of 2016-2020, Sarma said.

Sarma said the state government has provided financial aid of Rs 300 crore for the development of Kamakhya Temple.

He said under the Kanaklata Mahila Sabalikaran Yojana, a total of 1,99,705 Self-Help Groups (AHGs) in the state have been benefitted.

Under the Pragyan Bharati scheme, a total of 17,84,890 students, from families whose annual income is less than Rs 2 lakh, have been provided free admission in the state’s colleges.

A total of 1,70,000 widows have been benefitted from the pension sceme.
