Preparations are going on in full swing for hosting the first Bodoland International Paragliding Accuracy Championship in Assam.

The event is scheduled to be held from November 10 to 14 at Dangdufur Hills in Kokrajhar.

The mega event is being hosted by the Tourism department of BTC.

Deputy chief of BTC, Kampa Borgoyary on Tuesday said it would be the first mega paragliding event in the region where participants from different countries including India have enrolled.

Borgoyary who is also in charge of tourism addressed the media at BTC Secretariat conference hall on Tuesday.

He said the Dangdufur Hill top near Kokrajhar which is situated in the Chakrasilla Wild life sanctuary, the home of world endangered species-Golden Languor was very suitable for paragliding in the region.

There were no facilities although there are lot of talents in the adventure sports and tourism sports and therefore, the BTC took the initiative to explore the local talents and sent intending youths to Sikkim for paragliding training, he said.

He also said for development of adventure and tourism sports, the council had taken up various measures.

Borgoyary said the department has been working to take important tourist spots of BTC in the tourist destination map of the world and looking forward for development of national parks.

He said the hosting of international paragliding accuracy championship was also part of their mission to focus tourist spots of BTC to the visitors of the world.

The deputy chief said already 130 gliders from across the world have enrolled their names for the competition.

He said as many as 37 foreign gliders from China (10), Japan (1), South Korea (3), North Korea (3), Mongolia (1), Malaysia (2), Singapore (1), Nepal (5), Indonesia (9), Taiwan (1) and Hong Kong (1) have enrolled their name for participation in the competition while the rest from different states of India.

He said the champion will receive trophy and cash Rs two lakh while second and third position holders will receive trophy and cash Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs one lakh for both male and female categories respectively.

On the other hand, Borgoyary very recently joined the cleaning of road way to Dangdufur Hill top.

He along with local activists collected plastic and other wastes from the roadside leading to Hill top and appealed all to keep the hills clean and to save the beauty of Mother Nature.

Sources from the Tourism department informed that the inaugural ceremony of first Bodoland International Paragliding Accuracy Championship would be ceremonially inaugurated by Hagrama Mohilary, chief of BTC.
