Assam-born Major General Ananta Bhuyan assumed the charge as the Additional Director General (ADG) of the NCC Directorate of Northeast Region in Shillong.

An alumnus of Sainik School Goalpara in Assam and National Defence Academy (NDA) Khadakwasla, Bhuyan was commissioned in the Kumaon Regiment of the Indian Army in December 1983.

Major General Bhuyan, who has been conferred Sena Medal, for his exceptional devotion to duty and courage, has had extensive operational experience in various capacities in different parts of the country.

He was one of the Army officers who have pioneered service in Siachen Glacier.

“As a Brigade Commander he made immense contribution in counter-insurgency operations in Assam,” Guwahati-based defence PRO Lt Col P Khongsai said.

“The Army officer has a number of academic degrees to his credit including M.Sc., Master of Management Science and M. Phil,” Khongsai added.

He pursued courses in Staff College and National Defence College (NDC) and studied the Higher Defence Management Course (HDMC).

He is an avid sportsman and has travelled a number of countries, mostly European and Asian countries.

Bhuyan is married to Barnali Bhuyan and the couple has been blessed with a son and daughter.
