Tripura Assam: NRL officials arrested for elephant death cover-up

Guwahati: The police have arrested the District Transport Officer (DTO) of Bongaigaon, Assam for allegedly issuing fraudulent vehicle permits and registration documents.

The DTO identified as Deepak Patowary was arrested in connection with an ongoing investigation into over 400 cases of fake vehicle registrations.

According to reports, Patowary’s residences in Guwahati were searched by the police, leading to his arrest.

The corruption is believed to have taken place during his tenure as DTO in Chirang, where he and a dealing assistant allegedly colluded to approve online permits for vehicles using fake documentation.

It has been alleged that hefty transactions were carried out to register vehicles by fraudulent means.

A source said that the matter is being investigated thoroughly as there are chances of stolen vehicles being involved as well.
