The bodies of two Golaghat youths, who went missing, have been recovered from Kakochang Waterfalls in Karbi Anglong district, neighbouring Bokakhat on Monday morning.

The youths, who have died after drowning into the waters of Kakochang Waterfalls, have been identified as Bibhakar Nag of Station Road in Golaghat town and Sudip Bagchi of Tukani Park.

The two youths were part of a group of 8 youths, who went to Kakochang Waterfalls from Golaghat on motorcycles.

Apart from Sudip and Bibhakar, the group also had Hindi School’s Subham Pal, Kunal Dey, Ayush Dhar, Abhishekh Ghosh, Sumit Sarkar and Raju Ghosh of Hospital Road.

All the members of the group were playing in the waters of the waterfalls and some of them even jumped into the waters.

Suddenly Sudip and Bibhakar drowned in the waters and went missing.

The water level of the waterfalls was rising in the last two days due to incessant rains in the Karbi hills.

The incident took place in the evening on Sunday.

On being informed, a team of Dolmara police station rushed to the incident spot and rescued the others.

Due to darkness at night, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team could not carry out the search operation and the bodies of the two youths were recovered during the operation launched in the morning on Monday.

The two bodies have been sent to Golaghat civil hospital for conducting post-mortem.
