Assam BJP president Ranjit Kumar Dass on Thursday faced black protest at Chabua in upper Assam’s Dibrugarh district.

The anti-CAA protesters waved black flag at Dass at Chabua while he was on his way to BJP MLA Binod Hazarika’s residence.

During the anti-CAA agitation, the house of Chabua MLA Hazarika was burnt down by the protesters.

The anti-CAA protesters chased the convoy of BJP state president Dass and showed black flag to him. The protesters chanted ‘go back’ and various anti-BJP slogans.

The anti-CAA protesters also registered their protesters by the keeping the shutters of shops and business establishment down at Chabua.

A meeting was organised by BJP at Chabua near MLA Hazarika’s residence but the anti-CAA protesters reached the venue and showed black flag to him for supporting CAA.

The anti-CAA protesters chanted either ‘scrap CAA or arrest us’.

The BJP supporters raised voice in support of CAA and a minor scuffle ensued.  Security personnel present at the venue control the situation.

Talking to the media, BJP state president Ranjit Kumar Dass said, “We have come here to meet Chabua MLA Binod Hazarika because his house was burnt down by the protesters during the anti-CAA movement.

“The protesters wanted to kill them but their plan has not been successful. It is our moral responsibility to come to our colleague’s residence,” Dass said.

During the anti-CAA protest, many BJP Zila and Gaon Panchyat members had resigned from the party.

Dass said, “I have not got any written letter from any member over resignation issue. If they resigned from the party post in Chabua they should informed me in written but no such cases has come yet,”.

Among the important installation damaged in Chabua during anti-CAA protest are- post office, United Bank of India branch, office of circle officer, Zila Parishad chairman office, town committee office and several Gaon Panchayat offices.

On the other hand, at Moran Tiloi Nagar area on Wednesday, Moran MLA Chakradhar Gogoi was confronted by anti-CAA protesters and they formed a wall in front of his vehicle and did not let him pass.

The protesters stood firm and chanted slogans against the ruling BJP government and sought answers over CAA.

Another BJP MLA was hounded by protesters at Kachumari in Sivasagar district on Wednesday.

Mahmora MLA Jogen Mohan faced the wrath of the people.

Both MLAs were confronted while they were headed to BJP function to pay tribute to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his 95th birth anniversary.

Earlier in December, Union minister Rameshwar Teli was confronted by anti-CAA protesters at Naharkatia in Dibrugarh.

Dibrugarh SP Sreejith Tiraviam said, “So far we have arrested 59 person’s for indulging in vandalism and violence during anti-CAA protest in Dibrugarh. We have registered 79 cases and on the basis of the cases we have arrested them”.
