Guwahati: A local BJP leader named Suranjit Das Choudhary and six others have been booked under charges of attempted murder for allegedly assaulting a wine shop owner in Cachar, Assam.
The incident occurred on Saturday night, when the victim, a local wine shop owner, was reportedly thrashed by Choudhary and his associates.

The exact reason why they attacked the wine shop owner is not yet known.
Following the attack, the victim lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at Silchar Sadar police station.

Police have since registered a case against the accused under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including Section 143 (unlawful assembly), Section 341 (wrongful restraint), Section 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means), Section 379 (theft), and Section 307 (attempt to murder).
Suranjit Das Choudhary is a self-proclaimed Dalit leader of the BJP, has been in the news before.

Last year, he was reportedly removed from a Kolkata-bound flight at Silchar airport after allegedly threatening an air hostess.
