Jisu Kemprai

Police have arrested a BJP leader in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 9,000 from a person.

Howraghat Village Development Committee (VDC) chairman Jisu Kemprai was caught red-handed by police on Friday while accepting a bribe from a beneficiary of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) scheme.

VDC chairman Kemprai allegedly demanded Rs 10,000 from Bapon Nath for allotting a PMAY house in his name.

Nath, a resident of Jharbongapur village, approached Howraghat police station.

Accordingly, a trap was laid by police to nab the VDC chairman, when he was accepting a bribe of Rs 9,000 in front of Assam Gramin Vikas Bank, Samaguri branch.

He had earlier taken Rs. 1000 from Nath.

Kemprai was taken to Howraghat police station where a case has been registered against him.
