With fierce campaigns going on between various political parties in Assam, the BJP has fielded popular Indian actress Roopa Ganguly to campaign for the remaining two phases of the Lok Sabha elections that are to be held on April 18 and April 23 respectively.
Ganguly will attend four meetings in Lumding, Silchar, Karimganj and Hailakandi, as per reports.
In 2015, she joined Bharatiya Janata Party ahead of West Bengal Legislative Assembly election, 2016.
In West Bengal Assembly elections 2016, the Bengali star lost from Howrah North to Trinamool Congress counterpart and cricketer Laxmi Ratan Shukla.
Ganguly was nominated to the Rajya Sabha in October 2016 in place of cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu, who had resigned earlier.
The actress shot to fame by playing the much loved character of Draupadi in BR Chopra’s hit television series Mahabharata.
She is also well-known for her brilliant performances in popular Bengali serials like Muktabandha and Streer Patra.
Apart from acting in films and serials of various languages, Ganguly is also a trained singer who bagged the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for lending her voice in filmmaker Aditi Roy’s Bengali film Abosheshey
She has also been a recipient of numerous awards like the Bengal Film Journalists’ Association Awards and Kalakar Awards.
