It seems the seat-sharing equations of Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the forthcoming BTC polls are not going well.

It has given rise to worry and anguish among the BPF workers in the Nonoi Serfang constituency of BTC in Udalguri district.

According to sources, the standing Member Council of Legislative Assembly (MCLA), Suresh Tanti, is yet to be formally nominated by the party.

The party workers of the Nonai Serfang block Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) asserted that they won’t allow a BJP candidate to be fielded in the Nonoi Serfang Constituency as it is a stronghold of the BPF.

The president of the block, Ranjit Deka said, “The political roadmap of the BPF-BJP coalition can never be met with a compromise in this constituency which is a stronghold of BPF.”

Assam Cabinet minister and BPF MLA Rihon Daimari, while attending a massive bike rally taken out by party workers in Nalapara of Udalguri on Monday, also backed the candidature of Tanti for the ensuing polls.

Daimary also proclaimed that although the BJP is in alliance with the BPF, the Nonai Serfang ticket should not go to the BJP as it is a stronghold of the BPF and Tanti will certainly win with a landslide margin.

Sources close to the MCLA Suresh Tanti divulged that if he is not chosen as the party’s candidate for the polls, he is most likely to contest as an independent candidate.

BJP is believed to be eyeing the seat, wherein former Rajya Sabha MP Santiuse Kujur may be fielded by the saffron party.

The BJP currently has only one member in the 46-member BTC headquartered in Kokrajhar.
