Guwahati: Assam’s Bijoy Barman and Arup Buragohain will represent India in the prestigious ‘Ceylon Masters International Badminton Championships 2024’ to be held in Sri Lanka’s Colombo between July 25 and 28 this year.

Barman will represent India in the 55 age category doubles and 50 age category mixed doubles events of the tournament. While Barman will partner with Buragohain for the doubles event, his mixed doubles partner will be Maharashtra’s Urvashi Thapa.

Both Barman and Buragohain have previously represented India in the ‘2023 Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Championships’ held in South Korea. The duo will leave for Colombo on July 23.

The flagship event, with a prize pool of USD 10,000 up for grabs, promises thrilling contests attracting top master shuttlers from across the globe. The championship is held according to the BWF regulations. 

The tournament will commence with the preliminary rounds on July 25 and 26, followed by the quarter-finals and semi-finals on July 27. It will culminate with the finals on July 28.

The tournament offers competitions for diverse age categories – 35 to 75, and combined age categories for 100 plus, 110 plus, 120 plus, 130 plus  and 140 plus across men’s and women’s singles, doubles and mixed doubles events.
