Assam: Guwahati Police detains artists for graffiti demanding KMSS chief Akhil Gogoi’s release

The police on Thursday detained four artists for painting graffiti of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi on the wall of a bridge in Guwahati’s Basistha area.

These artists were reportedly taken to the Basistha Police Station along with Chhatra Mukti Sangram Samiti (SMSS) leader, Pranjal Kalita.

These artists had made the painting in support of the leader.

Police officials turned up and demanded that these artists remove the painting of Gogoi, a report quoted KMSS leader, Mukut Deka.

They were taken to the Basistha Police Station when they pledged their support to the peasant leader and demanded his release, he said.

The graffiti was eventually erased by the artists in the presence of police officials.

However, police sources said these artists have only been detained for questioning and not been arrested.
