The three-day long Shri Krishna Doul Mahotsav has begun in historic Barpeta Satra, which was established by Mahapurush Madhabdeb. Starting on Wednesday with satriya customs and traditions, the event will end on March 22.

The first day is known as ‘Gandhajatra’. On March 21, the second day is known as the ‘Bhor Doul’ and the third and last day, March 22, is called phakua or suweri.
This Mahotsav fills the hearts of all the people of Barpeta with fervour and colour. Holigeets are performed on all of these days. These folk songs are the compositions in praise of Lord Krishna. People from across Assam and beyond visit Barpeta Satra during the doul utsav.

During this festival the people of Barpeta forget their sorrows and agonies and celebrate this festival with traditional gaiety and enthusiasm.
Doul Utsav is also called ‘holi’ or ‘Fakuwa’. In the month of ‘phagun’, the spring comes, the world is filled with the green leaves of the trees, the flowers bloom, birds use to sing sweet songs, the gentle wind blows with fragrance and everything of this world changes into a different one.
And it is this sweet moment when Doul Utsav of Barpeta is celebrated.
