The 12-hour statewide bandh called by a conglomerate of 42 organizations in protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 and the November 17 convention organized by organizations representing Bengali Hindus in the state in support of the Bill has evoked mixed response in Udalguri district on Tuesday.

The district headquarter witnessed a complete downshutter of business establishments with government offices and schools remaining open.

Meanwhile in the Tangla town shops and markets were seen functioning and people were also seen on the streets inspite of the bandh.

While schools and government offices functioned the banks remained closed.

The merchants were unlikely to support the bandh because Wednesday is Lakhsmi puja and there is no scope of shutting down the market for the entire day.

The Tangla police also detained four bandh supporters including activists of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti(KMSS), namely Pankaj Axomia,Hiranya Tamuli,Bikash Neel Deka,Manoj Bania.

In Kalaigaon, town too the bandh evoked mixed response. In the morning hours protestors raised slogans like ‘Narendra Modi Go Back’, ‘Himanta Biswa Sarma Go Back’ and ‘Shiladitya Go Back’ while staging a protest in support of Assam Bandh.

Meanwhile places like Bhergaon, Khoirabari, Mazbat evoked full response of the bandh. No major incident except burning of tyres by bandh supporters were reported from various places of Udalguri district.
