Assam: Bajali gears up for Lok Sabha polls

A day just after the enforcement of model code and conduct, Bajali district election officer Dhiraj Kumar Jain informed the media person of the area regarding details of the preparation for Lok Sabha poll in a press meet held in the office premises of the SDO of Bajali.

Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy, SDO of Bajali also attended the press meet and informed that they were getting ready and preparation is going on war footing manner, in order to ensure smooth conduct of poll.

They also mentioned that the date of poll in the locality is April 23. Notification will be issued on February 28, the last date of submission of nominations is April 5, the last date of withdrawal is April 8 and counting of votes will take place on May 23.

The election will be held as per the electoral role of Jan 1, 2019 which will have a provision of update till the last date of nomination.

The office will conduct election for parts of No 5 Kokrajhar HPC and No 6 Barpeta HPC under Patacharkuchi LAC and Bhabanipur LAC. All total 397 polling stations will be open for holding poll where 204 will be in Bhabanipur LAC and 193 in Patacharkuchi LAC.

Out of the 397 polling stations, 292 will fall under Barpeta district, 70 will fall under Baksa district and remaining 325 will fall under Nalbari district. Under the Bajali election, district 2, 78247 electorates will exercise their franchise in the ensuing poll. Out of the electorate, 1,39,666 are from Bhabanipur LAC, (71,816 male and 67,850 female) and 1,38,581 in Patacharkuchi LAC (70,850 male, 67,731 female).

All together there are 2, 460 service voters and 1,042 differently abled ones in the election district. Election officer Jain informed that arrangements will be provided to the differently abled voters so that they may also exercise their franchise without any problem.

17 cells, 8 flying squads and 6 video surveillance groups have already been formed in the district as part of preparation for polls.
