The BJP party will give tickets to those aspiring to contest the 2021 Assam Assembly election from the party, based on the results of the survey, party’s state chief Ranjeet Kumar Dass said.
“Neither the chief minister nor the NEDA convener can affirm tickets to the candidates. We are conducting a four-tier survey and responses based on the survey shall determine who deserves to contest in the elections,” Das told reporters in Silchar on Thursday.
Dass was on a visit to south Assam to assess the preparations for the ensuing election.
He further said the saffron party has adopted the Sonai constituency of Cachar district as a model and decided to field as many as seven candidates from the minority community across the State.
Asked whether former Minister Gautam Roy will be the face of Katigorah constituency, Dass was quick to say that such talks do not matter much and candidates will be chosen based only on the results of the survey.
Responding to the questions on the alleged internal feud in the BJP in the Cachar district, the State BJP chief said that in every big family (the party) there are bound to be some agreements and counter-agreements.
“We are hopeful of securing not less than 50,000 votes from Silchar,” he added.
