The National Boro Christian Council (NBCC) on Monday expressed its displeasure at the United Christian Forum (UCF) in Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) extending support to the UPPL in the Assam Assembly elections.

NBCC is an umbrella association of Catholic as well as Protestant Bodo Christians in Northeast and West Bengal.

The organization asked all Bodo Christians living in Assam to vote for the party of their choice in the Assam Assembly elections and vote to power a democratic government that would work for the welfare of all communities residing in the state.

The UCF had extended its support to UPPL claiming that the former BPF led government in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) had done nothing for Bodo Christians living in BTR.

The NBCC also refuted the claims of UCF being its member.

“We want to make it clear the United Christian Forum is in no way connected with NBCC or such a statement by the United Christian Forum is not at all acceptable because it is neither known to nor supported by us,” NBCC president Arjun Basumatary while addressing the media in Kokrajhar.

The organization believed in the existence of a secular state, where all religions will continue to enjoy freedom of exercise and expression, the president said.

“We do not support any single political party, but has stayed neutral to bring about peace and and development in the region,” Basumatary said.
