Webcasting facilities will be introduced in 1, 6773 polling booths deemed vulnerable, critical and sensitive in the Assam Assembly elections, the State Election Commission said on Friday.

“As per ECI’s direction, a new layer of monitoring of poll day proceedings has been arranged by the CEO, Assam, to ensure free, fair and safe elections. Webcasting will be done in 16,773 polling stations in the ensuing general election to the Assam Legislative Assembly – 2021,” the ECI said in a statement.

Webcasting will be arranged especially in the vulnerable, critical and sensitive polling stations, and in those polling stations having large number of electors, the ECI said.

Among these, webcasting will be arranged in 5,772 polling stations in Phase I; in 5,315 polling stations in Phase II and in 5,686 polling stations in Phase III, it said.

Around 50% of the total polling stations in the state will be covered under webcasting.

Through webcasting, ECI, CEO and DEOs will be able to monitor the polling process live on the polling days.

Assam will go to polls in three phases with polls due on March 27, April 1 and April 6.

Polling will begin at 7 am on Saturday in 47 constituencies across 12 districts in the first phase of the Assam Assembly elections.
