The Congress-led grand alliance in Assam on Monday declared it was not only prepared to fend off horse-trading attempts, but also open to taking the support of “five-six BJP candidates” who had allegedly sent feelers about their plan of action once the poll results are declared.
Perfume baron Badruddin Ajmal’s AIUDF, which is a part of Congress-led Mahajot (grand alliance) in Assam, has claimed that ‘five-six BJP candidates’ are in touch with them.
AIUDF’s Sonai LAC candidate Karim Uddin Barbhuiya said that the five-six BJP candidates had sent feelers about their plan of action once the poll results are declared.
Barbhuiya was among the 18 candidates from Badruddin AIUDF whom the party had sent to Jaipur in the last week.
“AIUDF candidates are not scared of horse-trading. We did go to Jaipur together and also visited Ajmer Sharif, but that was only to relax. Our candidates were suffering from fatigue after weeks of campaigning,” TOI quoted Barbhuiya as saying.
“My colleagues are still there in Jaipur on their own. Whether they wish to prolong their stay or return is up to them,” he said.
The counting of votes to Assam Assembly election will take place on May 2.
