Assam: BJP MLA Taranga Gogoi may face disciplinary action for skipping

BJP candidate from Naharkatia seat Taranga Gogoi on Tuesday filed nomination papers for the upcoming Assembly elections before returning officer at Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner’s office.

Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma accompanied Gogoi while he proceeded to file nomination.

“There is no goalkeeper in Naharkatia. If you want to score goals you can score easily. It is up to the players how many goals they can score. Actually, the Congress-AIUDF alliance is not a factor for us in the upcoming Assembly elections. We will win in big margin securing maximum seats,” minister Sarma told reporters.

A procession was taken out from Mancotta field in support of Taranga Gogoi and his supporters waving the BJP flag assembled in front of the DC office.

“I will win over 40,000 votes from Naharkatia seat this time. For the first time, I am contesting the election. I think that Congress will give a fight to me in the polls because senior party leader Pranati Phukan is contesting from the seat,” he said.

AGP MLA Naren Sonowal is the current MLA of Naharkatia and he will be contesting as an independent candidate from the seat after he was denied a ticket by his party.

The BJP candidate said that AJP president Lurinjyoti Gogoi, who is also contesting from the constituency, is not a factor for him.

“Today I am blessed because NEDA convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma accompanied me while filing nomination papers,” he said.

Taranga Gogoi is a new face of BJP in Naharkatia and is known as a close aide of Sarma.
