Actor Zerifa, who made her foray into politics in October last year, joined the newly formed regional party, in presence of AJP president Lurinjyoti Gogoi.

Zerifa had actively participated in the anti-CAA protests and later joined Raijor Dal floated by Akhil Gogoi-led peasants’ organisation Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS).

Party insiders said she resigned from Raijor Dal on Monday after being denied a ticket for the forthcoming Assembly elections.

Zerifa reportedly sought a ticket from Bhabanipur constituency but the party nominated Kamal Kumar Medhi instead of the actor-turned-politician.

The AJP forged an alliance with the Raijor Dal for the assembly elections, however, differences have reportedly cropped up between the two parties.

Both the parties have parallelly fielded candidates in certain Assembly constituencies.

The AJP, which was formed by AASU and the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) following the anti-CAA protests, will also contest in 68 Assembly seats.

Zerifa, however, refuted the allegations that she resigned from Raijor Dal because of the denial of the poll ticket.
