Assam: ASDMA hosts workshop on national seismic risk mitigation

Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) organized a workshop on National Seismic Risk Mitigation Programme (NSRMP) at ASDMA Conference Hall in Guwahati on Thursday.

The workshop was held in coordination with National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

The conference was in regard of NDMA’s project on NSRMP in the eight states of Assam, Bihar, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Tripura and Uttarakhand.

It aimed to reduce the loss of life and economic loss by reducing the vulnerability of communities and their assets to natural disasters.

It also aimed to increase the capacity of national and state entities to effectively plan for and respond to disasters.

Further, this is the first workshop kick-starting the NSRMP project in the country initiated by the state of Assam.

The main components of the workshop were Earthquake Early Warning Dissemination System, Enhancing Emergency Response Capacity, Multi-hazard Risk Mitigation of Infrastructure, Technical Assistance to Improve Disaster Risk Management and Project Management, Monitor & Implementation Support.

The workshop was chaired by M S Manivannan, IAS, chief executive officer of ASDMA and started with the welcome address by Meenakshi Das Nath, ACS, state project coordinator, ASDMA.

The workshop was attended by Mahendra Meena, NDMA, Sanjay Kr Sharma, NDMA, Prof Jayanta Pathak, Assam Engineering College and consultants from DDF Pvt Ltd.

The team leader was Dr Amit Kumar, NDMA.

Moreover, the workshop was also attended by senior officials from ASDMA, PWD (Buildings), Urban Development (GMC, GMDA, Town & Country Planning), P&RD, Health Department (NHM), Education Department and Fire & Emergency Services.
