Two stolen .303 rifles along with ammunition were recovered from a hideout of Sonai-Rupai Wildlife sanctuary on Friday in an operation carried out by Tezpur Police, 2nd Assam Forest Protection Force, 30th CRPF Bn. and AISF Bn.
The operation was led of Numal Mahatta, Additional Superintendent of Police (HQ), Rashmi Rekha Sarmah, DSP (HQ), Bibhuti Mazumdar, Forest Range Officer, Kalamati Forest Range and SI Joy Sanker Wary of Misamari PS.
The arms and the ammunition were stolen on September 24 from inside the Kalamati Forest Range office under Misamari PS.
An FIR was lodged with the Misamari PS and a case was registered immediately.
After investigation, two forest guards- Biswajit Roy and Pramod Nath- were booked and sent to judicial custody, after they were suspected to be involved with the case.
