Shivangini Gohain, the archer from Assam who was seriously injured after an arrow accidentally pierced her neck during a practice session, has been shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi on Friday.
As per reports, the arrow had damaged her shoulder bone and had affected a part of her neck, spinal cord and left lung.

Deepak Gupta, a professor of pediatric neurosurgery at AIIMS said, “The patient is fine now. Our team was planning how to conduct her surgery last night.”
“We started the surgery in the morning at 6, which lasted for three and a half hours. We have successfully removed the arrow. The patient is stable now and shifted to ICU for observation,” he added.
Gupta also revealed that about 15 cm of the arrow pierced through her body.

He also said that the arrow was 0.5 cm in front of the spinal cord and was touching the vertebral artery which supplies blood to the brain stem.
The doctor claimed that Shivangini would have become quadriplegic if someone had tried pulling the arrow out of her body.
Gohain, whose accident took place on the eve of the third edition of the Khelo India Youth Games, had to be airlifted to Delhi after she was injured during the training session at Chabua in upper Assam’s Dibrugarh district.
