The Apollo group of hospitals as part of their Apollo Day, held a ‘walkathon’ to create awareness about cancer, in Silchar of Assam on Sunday.

The walkathon which began on a gloomy morning was flagged off by former deputy speaker of Assam and sitting MLA from Silchar, Dilip Kumar Paul, in presence of president of District Sports Association (DSA), Silchar, Babul Hore.

The two kilometre stretch of this walkathon began from the premises of DSA ground which was attended by hundreds of residents of Silchar town.

Sports persons, NCC cadets, nursing students, and senior intellectuals of this town, took part actively for supporting this cause.

Earlier speaking before this august gathering, Dilip Kumar Paul, said, “We all know, Health is Wealth, for which, being aware of our body, mind and soul, is key of keeping oneself healthy and happy.”

He added, “Even our Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is concerned about the fitness of 130 crore residents of this country, for which, he has started the ‘Fit India Movement’ to address such grave issues.”

He further said, “Statistics shows that almost 35 percent residents of India living in upscale urban areas are not fit or rather not aware of the conditions of their health, and now have to come out in large numbers and help Prime Minister Modi successful in his endeavor for a Fit India.”
