As many as 14 antique silver coins and a pair of bangles, believed to be of Ahom era, were recovered in an interior village in North Assam’s Lakhimpur district.

The coins and bangles were spotted by two villagers– Nitul Dihingiya and Tulin Gogoi—in a paddy field at Aamguri village near Dhalpur in Lakhimpur district on Wednesday.

The coins have different shapes and sizes with both Persian and Devanagiri inscriptions, said a local.

It is widely believed that the coins may belong to the eighteenth century Ahom period in Assam and of Mugahl India.

In November, 2019, similar antique octangular coins belonging to the mid-eighteen century were found in a paddy field in Dhakuwakhona.

The coins belonging to the era of Ahom King Swargadeo Rajeshwar Singha (1751-1769) had Persian inscriptions.
