Another doctor engaged in the frontline service in Lakhimpur district has tested positive for COVID-19.

This was informed by HK Dutta, joint director (in-charge) of health service in Lakhimpur district on Wednesday.

He has been identified as Nabajit Bora and he was posted at the COVID-19 Special Hospital at Telahi in Panigaon, Lakhimpur.

Three other medical personnel, engaged in the same hospital also have been tested positive.

Speaking to this correspondent, HK Dutta said that all four—including the doctor was present inside the hospital when quarantined inmates, coming from outside the state turned hooligan and spat in premise on May 27 night.

“The affected medical staff were inside when the quarantined inmates at Telahi Hospital broke the barricades and came outside the wards and littered the premise,” Dutta said.

The other positive persons are Biswajeet Kuli, a pharmacist, Ashoke Tawe and Lalit Sonowal—both Grade IV employees.

All four of them have been kept in quarantine in a hotel in North Lakhimpur after seven days of their duty at Telahi hospital.

All of them since have been shifted to North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital, said Dutta.

Earlier, another doctor Hashid Zaman, who was in charge of the quarantine centre at OPD College, Panigaon tested COVID-19 positive on June 3.

The testing of COVID positive of serving doctors and health workers infected by the unruly acts by quarantined inmates in hospitals have evoked strong resentment amongst the people in Lakhimpur.

However, no case has been registered against the trouble makers at Telahi COVID Hospital and OPD College quarantine centre.

Meanwhile, the total number of COVID-19 positive cases in Lakhimpur district has climbed up to 71.
