The Assam (Bhorelli) Angling and Conservation Association (A(B)ACA) observed World Fish Migration Day at Eco Camp Nameri National Park on Saturday.
Haflong legislator BB Hagjer who is also the president of A(B)ACA presided over the programme. Speaking on the occasion Hagjer emphasized the need to save gravid migratory fish during the breeding season.
Director of Cold Water Fisheries Institute, ICAR, Bhimtal Dr Debojit Sarma along with two other scientists deliberated the significance of World Fish Migration Day.
An art competition was also organised for the school students on the occasion.
Besides the A(B)ACA members, professor DN Das of Rajib Gandhi Central University, Arunachal Pradesh along with a group of PG students attended the programme.
Dr Atul Borgohain, HoD, Extension Education, College of Veterinary Science, AAU, Dr Ranjita Bania, Fisheries Biologist and Professor NR Chattopadhyay, Visiting Research Fellow of DBT also attended the programme and spoke on the occasion. The theme of 2018 World Fish Migration Day was “Connecting Fish, Rivers and People”.
