Former vice-Principal of North Lakhimpur College Amiya Rajbongshi on Friday received the National Award for Outstanding Efforts in Science and Technology Communication through Print Media for 2019.

The eminent science writer was presented the award by President Ram Nath Kovind in New Delhi in a function organised on the occasion of National Science Day

The award, Instituted by the National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC), carried a plaque, a citation and Rs 2 lakh cash.

She was shortlisted for the prestigious award for her “science communication efforts are extended for the dissemination of science to masses through print media and popular talks”.

She has been a regular writer for almost all science magazines and prestigious newspapers of Assam.

She has published 396 scientific articles and authored popular science books from NBT, India, Assam Publication Board and Assam Science Society.

She has also published 12 books on popular science and co-authored 25 others.

She also wrote on the lives and activities of Nobel Laureates on physiology or medicine in three volumes.

Currently, she is the rector of Genius Academy Junior College, North Lakhimpur.
