The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), an influential youths’ body of the state, will take the anti-CAA movement to the national capital to mobilize public opinion in support of their demands.

Already engaged in a legal battle at the Supreme Court for implementation of the ILP system in Assam, the youth body will also approach different political parties at the national level over the two issues.

“As both the issues require intervention from the Central government, we have decided to step up our efforts, both on the streets as well in the power corridors,” AJYCP general secretary Palash Changmai told reporters in Guwahati on Monday.

“While anti-CAA movement would be revived on the streets of Assam, we will also launch activities in New Delhi to make the Centre pay heed to us,” he said.

The AJYCP has decided to coordinate with the political leaders of the Northeast to create a lobby to press for implementing the ILP system in Assam.

Changmai said that timely implementation of the ILP system in Assam would have saved the State from the adverse impact of CAA and internal migration from other states of the country.

“In order to protect the indigenous identity, the ILP system is a must for Assam,” he said.

The youths’ body will organize a mass sit-in demonstration in all district and sub-divisional headquarters of Assam on January 9 followed by torchlight processions across the State on January 20.

Street meetings would be held at 500-odd locations in all the districts of Assam over the issues of CAA and ILP on January 27, he said.
