Bhuyan’s appointment comes after Bhupen Borah’s resignation as President of ASOM, citing “tremendous pressure” and unresolved disputes over candidacy for the upcoming Behali by-poll.
ASOM leaders claimed that they had their commitment to the coalition’s core objectives stating that they will not deviate from its founding principles.
The leaders also expressed dissatisfaction with the Congress party’s “betrayal” and asserted that ASOM will continue to exist in Assam independently of Congress.
