The AIUDF MLA from the Sonai Assembly constituency in Assam, Karimuddin Barbhuiyan, has allegedly faked his educational qualification.
According to the media report, Barbhuiyan in his affidavit, which was submitted to the Election Commission of India (ECI) prior to the Assam Assembly election 2021, claimed that he had cleared his graduation from Choudhury Charan Singh University in Meerut in the year 2019.

But Barbhuyan in his affidavit submitted to the ECI during the 2016 Assembly election, claimed that he had passed the higher secondary examination in 1987.
He also claimed he had cleared engineering diploma in 1990.
According to the report, in reply to an RTI query, the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) informed that Barbhuiyan appeared in the HSSLC (Class 12) final examination in 1987 but could not clear it.

It has been reported that a case has been lodged against Barbhuiyan in the Gauhati High Court for faking his educational qualification and the High Court has fixed August 4 as the date of hearing the case.
The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) leader came out victorious in the Assam Assembly election 2021 from Cachar’s Sonai constituency.
In the 2016 Assembly election, Barbhuyan faced defeat and the Sonari seat was won by Aminul Haque Laskar of the BJP.
Barbhuyan defeated Aminul Haque Laskar by securing over 70,000 votes in the last Assembly polls.
But Laskar approached the Gauhati High Court and lodged a case against MLA Barbhuiyan for faking his educational qualification.
The HT report quoted Laskar as saying, “In his affidavit, Karimuddin Barbhuiyan has revealed that he has completed his Graduation in 2019 from Choudhury Charan Singh University. But responding to an RTI, the university has said that Karimuddin Barbhuiya’s name isn’t there among students who graduated in 2019.”
Laskar said while the AIUDF MLA is claiming that he completed his graduation in distance education mode, “the university does not have a distance education facility”.
Laskar said, “Similarly, his engineering diploma is fake because the institute from where he passed, doesn’t exist. Now, Assam Higher Secondary Education Council is saying that he never passed the 12th class examination. So, how can he became a graduate?”
