Guwahati: The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) is facing renewed internal unrest in Assam following the exit of Zakir Hussain Laskar, the MLA representing Hailakandi.

Laskarโ€™s resignation comes amid rising political pressure within the party as the state prepares for upcoming elections.

The lawmaker has not publicly explained his reasons for leaving, but his departure coincides with ongoing disciplinary actions against two other party legislators.

Earlier, the AIUDF central leadership imposed a six-year suspension on Abdul Aziz of Badarpur and vice-president Karim Uddin Barbhuiya, citing alleged anti-party activities.

The party stated that both lawmakers had been under observation for behaviour considered damaging and controversial, which allegedly harmed the organisationโ€™s image and disrupted its functioning.

According to the AIUDF, the two suspended members were reportedly providing support to a rival political group and were preparing to join it.

These disciplinary actions were carried out following the partyโ€™s constitution and were officially authorised by General Secretary (Administration) Hafiz Bashir Ahmed.

Subsequently, Karim Uddin Barbhuiya announced on social media that he had decided to leave the party after seeking opinions from people across various communities.
