Two days ahead of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections, security forces on Saturday recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunitions from Ripu Reserve Forest under Gossaigaon police station in Western Assam’s Kokrajhar district.

The first phase of BTC polls will be held on December 7 while the second phase of polling will take place on December 10.

Kokrajhar SP Rakesh Roushan said based on specific information a joint operation was launched by police, SSB, and Army in the jungle area of Ripu Reserve forest Ride No 8 under Saraibil border Outpost of Gossaigaon police station in Kokrajhar district and recovered the arms and ammunitions

Security forces recovered two AK 54 rifles with magazine, six muzzle-loaded pipe gun, seven 7.65 mm pistol, 26 nos of 7.65 mm pistol magazine, 108 nos 7.62 mm live ammunition of AK rifles, 44 nos of 7.65 live ammunitions,  five grenades, 50 nos handmade empty cartridges,  six rounds of 5.56 mm live ammunition.

No one has been arrested in this connection, investigation is on, he said.
