GUWAHATI: Leaders of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), an ally of the BJP-led government in Assam, held its first executive meeting at its party office here on Tuesday to discuss the strategy of the party for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

Even as the leaders are yet to conclude the seats it would contest and the probable candidates, the meeting has decided to extend its support to all NDA alliance candidates for the upcoming polls.

The meeting also decided to strengthen its base from the booth level and public relations programme in the coming two months.

The meeting further decided to prepare an annual action calendar for organizational activists of the party throughout the year.

In his address, AGP president and state agriculture minister Atul Bora urged every party to actively engage themselves for the Lok Sabha elections in the next two months.

Borah also urged all members to follow party discipline and work for the benefit of the party among the people of all sections. 

“Our party is committed to the development of the state and the nation. Our indigenous people will be protected only if the AGP is strong,” Bora said.

The meeting was attended by working president Keshav Mahanta who welcomed the newly elected office bearers and said that the activities of the office bearers and members at all levels of the party will give new impetus to the party. 

Welcoming the newly-formed committee, senior leader Phani Bhushan Chowdhury urged every member to increase their efforts to strengthen the party. 

In the meeting, more than 200 activists from various parties and organizations joined the AGP.

Among the new entrants, is former president of Goria Moria Deshi Jatiya Parishad Shah Nawaz Hussain.

The party also remembered its founder leader and former minister Nagen Sarma on his 24th death anniversary. The programme was attended by late Sarma’s wife Dr Alaka Deshai Sarma and other prominent leaders of the regional party.
