Guwahati: Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) in Assam, will contest the upcoming Lok Sabha election in alliance with the BJP, Minister Atul Bora said on Sunday immediately after being re-elected as the president of the AGP.
Bora was re-elected as the president of AGP, while Keshab Mahanta was re-elected as the working president of the regional political party at the 12th central general convention held here.

The AGP has been a partner in the BJP-led coalition government in Assam since the 2016 assembly polls.

Bora said that the AGP is the only strong regional political party with an organizational base from Sadiya to Dhubri.

He urged the party workers to strengthen the AGP to carry forward the aspirations and concerns of the people of the state.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma congratulated Bora and Mahanta on being elected for a third term and said that he is confident that under the new leadership team of the AGP, the party will continue to play a key role in realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a Viksit Assam.
More than 5,000 leaders and workers of the party took part in the convention.
