Bipul Chaliha, a prominent cultural activist from Assam and former principal secretary of Asom Natya Sanmilan passed away on Saturday. 

Bipul Chaliha, an accomplished amateur artiste, actor and director breathed his last at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital. 

Chaliha succumbed to post-COVID complications. 

He was 56-years-old.

Bipul Chaliha was admitted to the GMCH on January 7 after testing positive for COVID-19. 

Although he tested negative for COVID later, Chaliha started to suffer from post COVID complications. 

He won the best supporting actor award in the Northeast Drama (full length) Festival in 1998.  

He acted in Assamese film ‘Anol’ besides several TV serials and full-length dramas among others.

He used to run a drama training centre called Northeast Dance and Drama Academy.  

He is survived by his wife and two sons. 

Bipul Chaliha’s untimely demise is being widely mourned in Mangaldai.
