Dibrugarh: The All Assam Studentsโ Union (AASU) on Friday staged a protest in Dibrugarh against the continuous rise in the prices of petrol, diesel, and essential commodities, holding the ruling BJP government responsible for the growing burden on the common people.
Hundreds of AASU members and supporters participated in the agitation, raising slogans against the government and expressing concern over the escalating cost of living.
The protesters alleged that the unprecedented price hike in fuel and daily necessities has severely affected middle- and low-income families across the state.
During the demonstration, the protesters marched through key areas of Dibrugarh town, making the locality resonate with slogans condemning the governmentโs economic policies.
The demonstrators demanded immediate intervention to control inflation and provide relief to the public.
AASU leaders stated that if effective measures are not taken to curb rising prices, the organisation would intensify its democratic movement in the coming days.
โThe people have voted BJP to power in Assam, but due to the price rise of essential commodities, the common people are suffering. Many businessmen are taking advantage of the situation and hiking prices of essentials. The government should identify such persons and take action against them,โ said Rupjyoti Borthakur, AASU district president.
