The Lakhimpur district unit of the All Assam Students Union (AASU) on Saturday staged a massive demonstration in Assam’s North Lakhimpur against the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

Calling their agitation “Gana Hunkar”, members of Lakhimpur AASU paid tributes to the five martyrs, who were killed during the anti-CAA protests in 2019.

The students’ organization demanded that the Union government scrap the act and appealed to the public to restart the anti-CAA movement in the state.

The Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) also staged a demonstration against CAA in front of the deputy commissioner’s office in North Lakhimpur today.

Termed as Jatiya Garjjan (national outrage, the KMSS also called for the repeal of CAA as Assam could no longer carry the additional burden of foreign nationals.
