A 60-year-old man was arrested in Dhubri on Monday night for allegedly raping his 14-year-old stepdaughter, police said.

The rape victim has been rescued by a joint team of Childline, Dhubri Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and police.

A team of Childline, Dhubri; chairperson of Dhubri CWC, Sabina Begum, coordinator Shahinur Islam, counselor Arifa Rahman and officer-in-charge of Dhubri College Nagar Town Police outpost Bhaigya Deka rescued the victim from the clutches of her stepfather at about 10.45 pm on Monday.

The joint team rescued the minor girl on the basis of a complaint.

The complainant alleged that the accused used to maintain physical relations with the girl child by threatening that if she does not compromise with him, he would divorce her mother.

He also allegedly hypnotised the girl using kabiraji technique and raped her several times in the last one year.

“After primary health check-up, the victim child has now been sent to a shelter home,” said Sahinur Islam, co-ordinator of Childline, Dhubri.

“A case (No 1597/2020) has been registered at Dhubri police station against the man, who is an employee of the District Fishery Development office in Dhubri and he has been arrested,” a police official said.

The rapist has been booked under Section 120 B (Punishment of Criminal Conspiracy), 376 (Rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and under provisions of the Protection of Child against Sexual Offence (POCSO) Act, said police.

“He was produced before a local court which has remanded him to judicial custody,” police added.
