A Covid19 positive patient committed suicide at the Mohkhuli Model Hospital in Tinsukia district of upper Assam on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as 60-year-old Kambhu Tanti.

According to a health official, Tanti, a tea garden worker at Samdang tea estate near Doomdooma, was admitted to the hospital along with his wife on May 22 after they tested positive for Covid19.
The health official, on condition of anonymity said, “Tanti took the extreme step in the room allotted to the couple after they tested positive for Covid19.”
“His wife is in a state of complete shock. Tanti was recovering from Covid19 infection but why he took this extreme step is still not known,” the official said.

“We have sent the body for post-mortem and an order has been issued to investigate into the matter,” said an officer of health department.
At around 5 am, one of the staff members of the hospital spotted the Covid19 patient committing suicide.
His wife was not in the room at that time.
According to hospital sources, the 33-year-old daughter of the deceased had also tested positive for the virus and is currently admitted to the Assam Medical College Hospital in Dibrugarh.
