A 5-year-old girl child was allegedly sexually assaulted on Monday by a barber in western Assam’s Kokrajhar district.
Police said accused Devilal Thakur, 38, sexually assaulted the minor girl when she was playing with two other children near her house on the northern side of Kokrajhar railway station.

“The child was playing with two other children near her house when the accused sexually assaulted her taking advantage of the absence of elders,” Binanda Basumatary , officer in-charge of Kokrajhar Sadar Police station, told reporters.
Accused Devilal Thakur has been working as barber in the area for last eight years.
Police have arrested the accused and registered a case under section 376 AB of the IPC and the POSCO Act.

Basumatary said he is being interrogated at Kokrajhar police station. The child welfare committee Kokrajhar has also taken up the case.
