As many as 40 employees of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), who were allegedly appointed illegally, have been terminated from services.

GMC commissioner Devashish Sharma in an order issued on August 25 stated that the 40 daily wage employees (DWE) have been terminated from their engagement in the GMC with immediate effect.

As per reports, the 40 DWEs were appointed by GMC without any valid advertisement.

They were terminated based on the report filed by the Fact-Finding Committee, which was set up following the media reports about the anomalies in the appointment of the DWEs.

The appointment was made during the tenure of former GMC commissioner Debajit Hazarika.

However, the GMC or the government has so far not taken any action against the officials involved in the scam.
