Three men have allegedly raped a Covid-19 positive frontline sanitation worker on the outskirts of Silchar town in south Assam’s Cachar district.

The 32-year-old woman, who is employed at the RE Nursing Home & Diagnostic Centre in Silchar, was allegedly raped by the trio on Sunday evening at a remote area under Ghungoor police outpost of the district.

Police said the incident took place when the woman was returning home from her workplace in Silchar.

Based on a complaint lodged by the woman with Ghungoor police outpost, three people were arrested on Monday.

The accused have been identified as Samay Gwala, Kanak Lal Gwala and Mahesh Gwala.

Cachar SP BL Meena said based on the complaint, the police registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC and arrested three persons.

“Police are investigating into the case,” he added.

According to reports, the victim tested positive for COVID-19 during her medical examination.

“The trio will also be tested for COVID-19 before being produced before the magistrate,” said a police official.
