Three (3) policemen, who were engaged on election duty have tested positive for COVID-19.

Of the three policemen, who tested COVID-19 positive, two are from Assam’s Biswanath district.

The two cops from Assam’s Biswanath are reportedly: Narayan Baruah and Kamal Chetry.

Narayan Baruah is serving as a sub-inspector with the Assam police at the Behali Police Station.

Reportedly, both the policemen had returned to Biswanath after completing election duty in Karimganj district that went to polls in second phase and Bongaigaon that voted in the third phase of elections.

After the cops tested positive, the areas where they reside in Biswanath have been declared as containment zones.

The official quarters of Narayan Baruah along with the adjoining quarters have been declared as containment zones.

Moreover, the residence of Kamal Chetry, along with the adjoining houses have also been declared as containment zones.

The Biswanath district administration had barred the entry and exit into the notified Containment Zones with immediate effect.

Both the areas have been converted into containment zones from 5pm on Friday.

Meanwhile, COVID-19 cases in Assam are on a gradual rise.

A total of 245 COVID-19 positive cases were detected in Assam on Thursday.

One person also succumbed to COVID-19 on Thursday.

Between April 1 and April 8 as many as 860 cases of COVID-19 were detected in Assam.
