The trio was Grade V students of the said school and was all of 11 years old. Sources said that the three girls went for a “fun outing” to the nearby Pitbari village pond without the knowledge of their respective family members.

When all three did not return till late evening, their respective family members got worried and started searching for them frantically. It was during the intensive search operations by the villagers that the bodies of the girls were fished out of the pond.

The recovery of the bodies has “shocked” the parents of most children as most of their wards go to the pond to swim. It is not very long back that four persons in two separate incidents of boat mishap died in West Goalpara.
